“We think Architecture is Relation Network Design”. In keeping with this principle, the Korean studio Hyunjoon Yoo Architects designed the spacious, 3200-square metre premises of HUB of Seoul, made available by the city council for SBA & Youthhub. Anyone wishing to start their own business can access the HUB for free, where they will also find training and financial consultancy services free of charge. Those interested can count on two groups: “Social Business Association” and “Jobs for Young Adults”, which for six months will be hosting candidates until they are ready to launch their own business.
In arranging the spaces of HUB & SCL offices, the design engineers took their inspiration from cities: “Basically, we need to create a small town in the area of 3,200 sqm. We studied urban structure of Rome and New York. We liked plazas and the river in Rome; and central park, grid and diagonal Broadway of New York. First step of design process was to layout the road network on the huge flat space. The network is composed of diagonal ‘Broadway’, plazas, and the river. The HUB is a miniature of a city, while the sound insulated cell offices are the houses of this city”
